ACSED has been invited to join the Inter-Departmental Task Force which is reviewing and compiling the results from the May 16 "Let's Make A Change Event", which identified best practices and changes needed to improve State Government's efforts to employ Persons With Disabilities [PWDs].

The Task Force is Co-Sponsored by the State Personnel Board [SPB] and the Department of Rehabilitation [DOR].  It also includes the Department of General Services [DGS] and it is Chaired by a retired annuitant from State Service.  The input from the Event has been organized into about 20 major categories with Reasonable Accommodation and LEAP identified as two of the items needing most attention.  The Task Force is to develop an Action Plan which will be reviewed by all the participants from May 16.

ACSED was represented by its President Les Treece-Sinclair, who lauded the work of the group.  The Association was a member of the Team that designed the May 16 Event and also participated in it.  ACSED is registered with the State as a bona fide employee organization and is the only non-governmental organization involved in this effort.

The Action Plan that will result from this effort will serve as a key element in the effort to implement the Governor's Executive Order [EO] S-4-05, of 2005, which directs State agencies to use best practices in all areas [recruitment, hiring, advancement, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment..."] to increase the employment of PWDs.
