ACSED has
been invited to join the Inter-Departmental Task Force which is reviewing and
compiling the results from the May 16 "Let's Make A Change Event", which
identified best practices and changes needed to improve State Government's efforts
to employ Persons With Disabilities [PWDs].
The Task
Force is Co-Sponsored by the State Personnel Board [SPB] and the Department of
Rehabilitation [DOR].It also includes
the Department of General Services [DGS] and it is Chaired by a retired
annuitant from State Service.The input
from the Event has been organized into about 20 major categories with
Reasonable Accommodation and LEAP identified as two of the items needing most
attention.The Task Force is to develop
an Action Plan which will be reviewed by all the participants from May 16.
ACSED was
represented by its President Les Treece-Sinclair, who lauded the work of the
group.The Association was a member of
the Team that designed the May 16 Event and also participated in it.ACSED is registered with the State as a bona
fide employee organization and is the only non-governmental organization involved
in this effort.
The
Action Plan that will result from this effort will serve as a key element in
the effort to implement the Governor's Executive Order [EO] S-4-05, of 2005,
which directs State agencies to use best practices in all areas [recruitment,
hiring, advancement, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of
employment..."] to increase the employment of PWDs.
