Session Title: Mentoring and Volunteering Can Promote Your Success and the Success of Others
Session Speaker: Jean Shiomoto, Former Director of Department of Motor Vehicles

Session Overview: Have you ever had a mentor who inspired you, or learned a new skill set in a volunteer opportunity? Mentorship and volunteerism aren’t always the first thing that come to mind when you think about career development, but they can play a role in your professional growth. Seeking out a mentor who can provide advice, guidance, or can coach you is a great strategy when taking the next step in your career. Mentors can provide support and encouragement, as well as objective perspectives. Volunteerism isn’t just a great way to give back to your community, but it creates the opportunity to build your network, enhance existing skills and learn new ones. When you combine mentorship and volunteerism with additional technical, or career related training, it’s a recipe for success. Our presenter will share the role mentorship, and volunteerism has played in her career and the career of those she’s uplifted.
